The first in a series of paintings of The Great (Salt) Marsh, a 20,000-30,000 saltmarsh extending north along the coast from Cape Ann, to the southern border of New Hampshire.

Here, a southward view into the expanse of the marsh from the Plum Island Turnpike, across the street from Bob Lobster fish market, near to the infamous Pink House.
